Ready or not ...

Updated: Jan 1, 2024

The countdown to midnight, December 31st, reminds me of the Hide & Seek game. The steady counting of the seeker punctuates the running footsteps of retreating hiders until the cry is heard, “Coming, ready or not!”

Are you a hider or a seeker in the game of life, 2024? You may recall an earlier blog post when I quoted Clayton Christensen, ”Questions are places in your mind where answers fit. If you haven’t asked the question, the answer has nowhere to go.

At the beginning of each year, I ask myself, ‘What do I want in life and what needs to happen to achieve it? Asking appropriate questions allows the possible answers to present themselves. Progressing from what I don’t want to what I want requires asking new questions and inviting better answers.

In February’s blog post, I spoke of imagining living your best life. We live our best lives when we intentionally create daily habits and choices to achieve our desired life.

If you can get one percent better each day for one year, you’ll end up thirty-seven times better by the time you’re done” James Clear (Atomic Habits)

Traveling the best route to where we want to go requires constant reviewing. Sometimes, we face a direction change in our lives due to circumstances we have no control over. Experiencing death, divorce, diagnosis, distancing from loved ones, or a disappointing outcome can feel like a major roadblock that prevents us from moving forward on the journey. When we view these unexpected happenings as a necessary rerouting of our thought process, we can accommodate the revised plan for how we thought our life would be. Remember, it is your journey. You decide how you are going to steer your life. You choose if passengers will join you.

“The quality of a person’s life will be determined by the quality of their relationships.” Kain Ramsay

In 2024, surround yourself with people who allow you to feel the realness of life, who know how to make you laugh, and who inspire you to become a better you.

Being with these people diminishes the need to play Hide & Seek in life — no one hides and no one chases. Everyone is living their best life and inspiring others to do the same.
